Help

The list of chapters follows the sequence found in Mohl's edition (1838-78), which were later given an alpha-numerical designation by Fritz Wolff (1935). There are some peculiarities: first, Shapur son of Ardashir is numbered 22* and number 30 was overlooked by mistake. These irregularities are smoothed out in the edition of Dabir-Siyaqi (1956), which otherwise follows Wolff's scheme. More recent editions (Bertel's et al.; Khaleghi-Motlagh) do not give numbers to the chapters, only titles. These have been assigned numbers for the purposes of the Project. A useful concordance of chapters and page numbers in the different editions can be found in Kumiko Yamamoto's The oral background of Persian epics (Leiden, 2003), pp. xiv-xviii.

Click on the red > to display the scene titles within each chapter. This sequence of scenes has arisen from the work done on this Project, and allows new titles to be added as necessary.
