Faridun and his army set out to fight Zahhak. He meets the angel Surush and receives his blessing. His brothers become jealous and try to kill him with a stone while he is sleeping, but Faridun stops the stone with a spell. He reaches the banks of the Tigris (Dijla) and, when the boatmen refuse to launch their craft, Faridun and his troops cross the river on horseback. He reaches Zahhak's residence in Jerusalem and enters the city.
[The Southeby's ms. shows Faridun arriving at the gates of Zahhak's palace; all the others seem to show him crossing the river.]
