Kay Kavus marches against Mazandaran. At first he is successful. But the king of Mazandaran enlists the aid of the White Demon who emits a black cloud over the Iranian army. Kay Kavus and many of his men are blinded and the Iranian warriors are taken captive.
[NB. At this point it is not explicitly stated that Kay Kavus himself was taken prisoner; only much later is there mention of 'the place where Kavus is bound' (Mohl 500, 507 = Khaleghi 465, 472). However the miniatures do depict him bound already in this scene.]
