Rustam arrives at a field by a stream. He takes off his armour and dries it in the sun, then he lies down to sleep. While he is sleeping Rakhsh grazes in the field. The watchman arouses Rustam and berates him for letting his horse loose in the field. Rustam rips off the ears of the unfortunate man, who runs off to complain to the landlord, Aulad. Aulad, who is out hunting with his other nobles, confronts Rustam. Rustam engages them in battle and slays a number of them.
