The manuscript is in good condition, trimmed and rebound in modern library covers, of blue fabric and a leather spine and corner pieces. The doublures are of plain paper. It was clearly left incomplete - not only are there no illuminations, but the rubrics are also left blank for the bulk of the ms., especially the final part.
The pages are ruled with an outer margin in blue, and the innermargins of black, space, twothin red lines. The columns are of two single red lines, and the rubrics (in red nasta'liq) are a plain box ruled with a single red line.
The text starts f. 1v in the story of Isfandiyar, under a space left blank for an unvan. This section ends f. 150r, with a colophon indicating the completion of the copying (Muharram 1238). ff. 150v-151r are blank; the fourth and final book starts on f. 152v, again under a space left blank for an unvan that was never executed. The final colophon, in a much larger script, supplies the completion date as well as details of the scribe and his place of residence.
Two seals can be seen on f. 1v.
The manuscript contains 34 spaces left blank for paintings that were never carried out.
Thanks to Ms. Iffat Azeem for her help and for paginating the text, and also to Zahra Hassan-Agha for taking the photos.
