The parent ms. is the celebrated copy of the Shahnama made for Isma'il II (reg. 1576-7), which was acquired by the French art dealer Demotte. After being exhibited intact at the Musee des Arts Decoratifs in 1912, it was broken up for sale and dispersed. Sheets are found in many private and public collections (The Agha Khan, in Geneva; the Rothschild collection; the Chester Beatty collection in Dublin).
