Public Notes
The text of the Shahnama is in four volumes (jild) bound as one; each volume is closed by a colophon recording the completion of the section, (1) on 5 Dhu 'l-Qa'da 1270; (2) in Rajab 1271; (3) on 8 Rabi' II, 1272 and (4) apparently in 1274 A.H.; although there is an additional colophon at the end of the index or wordlist (lughat-nama) of the vocabulary of the Shahnama, dated the last ten days of Dhu 'l-Hijja 1272 (p. 1220).

The paintings, however, took longer to complete, the last being dated 1280 A.H.
