The Ancient India & Iran Trust was founded in 1978, based in the house and library of Sir Harold Bailey, left in trust after his death. The Library has over 20,000 volumes, concentrating on the early civilisations of the Indian Subcontinent, Iran and Central Asia and their languages. Sir Harold had a number of Persian manuscripts, which have been listed by Maria Szuppe. Among them is one illustrated copy of the Shahnama.
