Formerly the Prince of Wales Museum of Western India. The Museum has three illustrated copies of the Shahnama, all of interest and unusual characteristics; one of them is currently (January 2011) in too poor condition to be accessed, due to the text block lifting away from the page, caused by the erosion of the marginal rulings. There is no published catalogue, but an incomplete handlist contains details of the manuscripts and identification of several of the paintings they contain.
The museum has a display of paintings in the Miniature Painting Gallery, accompanied by a publication, Styles in Indian Miniatures: A Guide, by Vandana Prapanna & Manishe Nene, Mumbai 2010.
Brief preliminary inspection by F. Abdullaeva and Ch. Melville, 11 January 2011, with thanks to the kind assistance of Vandana Prappana. The Museum has a conservation section and a photography department.
Visit to be followed up by a request to the Director.
