Cambridge University Library has a small but interesting selection of illustrated Shahnamas among its large collection of Persian and other Islamic manuscripts. These include some belonging to the Cambridge Colleges, notably the ms. owned by Corpus Christi (Or. 202 in the database). These have been catalogued in varying detail by E.G. Browne, R.A. Nicholson and A.J. Arberry. As in other British collections, several mss are of Indian origin or purchased in India, and are of variable quality. The earliest and finest of the Shahnamas (Add. 269, late 16th century) has been identified and undergone restoration as a result of this Project. Two manuscripts contain spaces for paintings that were never executed. Permission to publish the images in any other form must be sought from the Library.
