The Library of the K.R. Cama Oriental Institute currently holds six illustrated copies of the Shahnam (more precisely, five manuscripts of the Shahnama and one of the abridgement known as the Tarikh-i Dilgusha-yi Shamshirkhani). The most celebrated copy, dated to the 14th century and seemingly in very poor condition, associated in the past with the Cama Institute, seems at present to be no longer there, and its whereabouts are not known. It continues to be listed here as a Cama ms., pending further information as to its whereabouts.
The other copies, which include several examples of unusual interest, were examined briefly by F. Abdullaeva and C. Melville in January 2011, on the occasion of the Institute's seminar on the Shahnameh, 8-9 January 2011, with the kind assistance of Muncherji M.N. Cama.
Project Notes
