The Museum of Fine Arts contains several single folios of the Shahnama, together with a few other works from the Islamic world, designated as drawings (dessins) and kept in the Archives Dept. in a building adjacent to the Museum. One leaf identified as coming from a Shahnama, no. 1973.Ea1, cannot currently be located. The subject concerns 'Khusrau talking to Shirin'. Two other paintings at first sight suggest a possible Shahnama ms.; Dr. 1986 (1956.Ea.2). 112, depicting Khusrau receiving an ambassador, is not however from the Shahnama; Dr. 1986 (1950-51. Dv. 12). 119 shows a polo game. The text has been trimmed away so that no precise identification is possible. The image is pasted down on board so that nothing can be learned from that either; the dossier however contains information about its provenance and exhibition history, derived from the back of the image itself. Works from collections of Canadian Museums are available online at www.chin.gc.ca via 'artefacts Canada', 'Humanities' and 'browsing indices'. Photographs from the permanent collection can be ordered from the photographic dept., firstname.lastname@example.org, fax: 00-1-514-285-4041.The Shahnamas were recorded on a visit by Ch.M. on 5 August 2008; thanks are due for the kind assistance and collaboration of the Registrar and Head of Archives, Daniele Archambault.
