A King (Mahmud of Ghazna) is sitting on the throne; a guard stands behind him with a bow and an arrow in his hands. Two mature men are sitting before him. One is reading a letter. One young man is standing behind them. A book is on the floor in front of the throne, presumably Firdausi's work presented to the monarch.
